Speed is one of the main factors in succeeding in competitive running. Speed is also a main factor in other sports. To reach high speeds, one must train and dedicate themselves to get better. For Courtney Pease, speed comes naturally.
Courtney Pease is a junior at Porum High School. She is a part of the softball, basketball, and track teams for her high school. She is also involved in Student Council, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and is a straight A student.
Courtney finds motivation from competing against herself. “I try to beat my personal records,” said Courtney about her motivation. She also pushes herself so that she can be a good role model for the underclassmen and other athletes.
Being dedicated comes easy when you love what you do. Courtney uses her love for track to help make her better. “I like track because I can push myself to be faster,” said Courtney. She has been a runner her whole life, but track is the one thing that highlights her talent.
Courtney is a hard worker on and off the playing field. Coach Wheat, Courtney’s track coach, stated, “She works hard at everything she does. She just goes and does it. She has the ability to dominate. She finds another gear.” Courtney uses competition to her advantage. She lets it push her.
It would be easy for Courtney to say that her success is all her doing, but she is very thankful and showed great appreciation for her family. “No matter what I am involved in, they are always there to support me,” said Courtney.
In the future, Courtney hopes to keep bettering herself in and outside of athletics. She also plans on attending college and pursuing a career as an ultrasound technician or family nurse practitioner. She plans on using everything sports and her family has instilled in her to succeed in life.
