Q&A with Keota’s Layce Price – Presented by Dunn Ford

Layce Price, a rising star at Keota High School, has been a force on the basketball court.

Layce identifies Coach Smith as her favorite coach, emphasizing the impact beyond the court: “Coach Smith has been my favorite coach by far. He has spent time helping me on what skills I need to work on, and he also has taught me that basketball can be more than just a game. He always says that he wants to help us be better people and help us succeed in the future.”

In the world of team sports, Layce highlights the support of her best friend and teammate, Jaysa Lester: “She has been my number 1 since junior high. We both always support each other and have been close since we met.”

Layce recognizes Dillon Lewis as her favorite teacher, noting the real-life lessons imparted: “Dillon Lewis has probably been my favorite teacher. In the three years I have had him as a teacher, he has had multiple real-life conversations with me and taught me a few necessary life skills, like how to tie a tie.”

Preparation is key, and Layce’s off-season focus has been on improving her shooting skills: “My main focus this off-season has been my shooting. I’ve spent many evening and morning practices on the shooting gun and moving shots.”

Basketball has taught Layce invaluable life skills: “I have learned to trust in my friends to be there when I need them, and I also have learned that communication is needed to accomplish your goals.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Layce expresses her aspirations: “For my team this year, I just want everyone to get along and have a good time playing together. For myself, I hope to really step up on offense and be a top scorer for my team.”

Excitement builds for Layce as she anticipates a specific matchup: “I’m most excited for our opening game against McCurtain at home this season.”

Beyond high school, Layce has ambitious plans for her future: “My future plans are to continue school at UCO and gain a bachelor’s degree in forensic science and go on to become a CSI investigator or detective.”
