Rougher Football Spotlight – Anthony Watson – Presented by Honda of Muskogee

Anthony Watson is a junior for the Muskogee Roughers and gets the job done from out of the backfield and when lined up at tight end. As a sophomore Watson managed nearly 800 yards and five touchdowns in 2021. As the fall ‘22 campaign is underway Watson has set his sights making an even bigger impact this year.
“I want to improve on my reception rate and go for 1,000 yards,” Watson said. “I also want to be a better leader on and off the field while leading our team to a state championship.”

So far, things are going well as Muskogee has started the season with a 3-0 record with wins over Enid, Putnam City, and Carl Albert. Watson put in hard work over the offseason and had fun while doing so. Watson said his favorite memory from this past year was attending a 7V7 tournament in Arkansas with his team. He appreciated the moments he and teammates spent together and it was an opportunity for him and the team to bond and build chemistry.

The tournament in Siloam Springs served as a preview of things to come as Watson and his team came out of the tournament as 7V7 champions.

Watson appreciates the efforts his coaches and teammates put into the football program and is thankful for the impact they have made on his life. In the classroom Watson also appreciates the teachers who have been supportive in his academic achievements and go above and beyond to make education exciting.

“Nigel Carter from my eighth grade year was my favorite,” Watson said. “He was my history teacher and he made learning about history fun.”

On the field Watson is motivated by his teammates and their competitive drive.

“Jalen Larkpor left the biggest impression on me,” Watson said. “His work ethic was unmatched.”

When Watson or the Roughers need a teammate to lighten the mood they know where to turn. “Teyon Brewer does a great impression of coach Prentice Joseph and Jayden Bell says some funny stuff on the field,” Watson said.

Watson is thankful and gives a big shoutout for all the support he has received from his coaches, friends, family, and teammates over the years.
