Stigler’s Carley Pendergrass – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Kilgore Meat Processing Plant

When high school athletes step out onto the field or court to compete, they know that they have their family and friends in the stands to cheer them on. But when they look up and see members of the community there also, it can make a big impact on them.

Carley Pendergrass is a 2023 graduate of Stigler High School. As she reflects back on her four years of high school athletics, she says that the people of Stigler were great about showing their encouragement.

“It means everything to me that I was able to be a representative of Stigler when I competed,” she said. “My community has been nothing but supportive of every sport, activity, or club. The people of this community make sure the kids at highschool get the opportunity to do what they love, and the students take it upon themselves to make the community proud of their investments. When we leave Stigler, we know that we are representing our town.  We value our town’s reputation because it reflects us as a school, and our community. I am truly blessed to be a Stigler Panther.”

Pendergrass competed in golf and varsity cheer as a student at Stigler. Away from sports, she was also involved in speed and drama.

As a student athlete, Carley had a number of people that were influential in her life and helped shape her into the person that she is today.

“My parents are definitely some of my biggest role models,” she said. “They always push me to be better and will do anything for me. They show me how to live through God every day, and they challenge me to be a better person. They always do the right thing, even if it isn’t the easiest way.

“Mrs. Lori Boren was one of my teachers and she had the biggest impact on my life. I have learned so many lessons through her and the amazing standard she sets for all her students. she never failed to make me laugh and welcomed me with open arms.”
