Stigler’s Hiahni Howard – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Shearwood Chiropractic Clinic

Hiahni Howard, a standout senior basketball player from Stigler High School, shared insights into her athletic journey and the profound impact it has had on her life.

Reflecting on pivotal figures in her career, Hiahni acknowledged Coach Moody Smith as a significant influence: “He knew ways to get me going when I had bad games.” This attests to the coach’s ability to motivate and guide his players beyond the technical aspects of the game. Hiahni also spoke highly of her teammates Madi Jones and Jordan Johnson, emphasizing the unique chemistry that sets their team apart.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Hiahni credited her 11th-grade English teacher, Jessica Walker, for being more than an educator. Ms. Walker’s willingness to lend an empathetic ear and offer support beyond the classroom left a lasting impact on Hiahni, highlighting the importance of educators who go the extra mile for their students.

Preparing for the upcoming basketball season, Hiahni engaged in rigorous off-season training, participating in multiple tournaments across the United States and challenging herself against high-caliber opponents. This dedication speaks to her commitment to continuous improvement and readiness for the challenges ahead.

Beyond the physical aspects of the sport, Hiahni shared a valuable life lesson learned from basketball: “Never let one mistake ruin your whole day.” This resilience and ability to bounce back from setbacks reflect not only her athletic prowess but also her maturity and mental fortitude.

Recalling a significant moment from the 2021-2022 season, Hiahni fondly remembered beating Hartshorne, marking Stigler’s first victory over them since 2017. The sense of achievement and teamwork during that game encapsulates the spirit of camaraderie that fuels her passion for the sport.

As the new season approaches, Hiahni expressed ambitious goals for both herself and the team, aspiring to achieve a more favorable playoff outcome. She singled out Eufaula as a particularly challenging matchup, eager to face tough competition.

Looking toward the future, Hiahni remains undecided about her post-high school plans but envisions a path that involves playing basketball and studying kinesiology to become a physical therapist. This dual commitment to her athletic and academic aspirations showcases Hiahni’s determination and dedication to shaping a successful future.
