Stigler’s Mcade Peery – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Dunn Ford Company

MCADE PEERY

Stigler High School

By Payton Moody

In the world of sports, talent and skill are undoubtedly crucial, but it is the character of an athlete that truly defines their greatness. One individual who embodies this belief is Mcade Peery, a standout senior quarterback and defensive back from Stigler High School, standing tall at 5’11 and weighing 165 pounds. As he prepares to break the school record for touchdown passes, Peery’s remarkable career stats of 4,096 passing yards and 47 touchdowns, along with 1,588 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns, are undoubtedly impressive. However, it is his exceptional character both on and off the field that truly sets him apart and inspires those around him.

Peery’s journey has been shaped by various influences, but one person who stands out as his favorite coach is Stigler head football coach Cade Shearwood.  “Coach Shearwood has impacted me more than any coach because he has always been very inspirational,” Peery said. “He cares about us on a different level than just as his players.”

In sports, a team is similar to a family, and teammates have a significant impact on one another’s recognition and support.  “All of my teammates support me, and there is not one that doesn’t admire me,” Peery said. “We’re a family, so we all admire each other.”

Dedication and hard work are also key factors in an athlete’s journey, and Peery’s preparation during the off-season exemplifies this. “I have worked a lot at throwing and gaining strength,” he said.

Sports teach valuable life lessons, and for Peery, one significant lesson is discipline. “My sport has taught me a lot about discipline,” Peery said. “It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth the effort.”

Finally, when asked about the significance of good character in sports, Peery strongly believes in the impact of a good attitude. “Yes, I do believe having good character is vital to having a good football season, or a successful outing in any sport. It helps us grow as more than just athletes, but as people.”
