VIAN WOLVERINES – Preview – Presented By Vian Family Dentistry

HOMECOMING ROYALTY

Purple and Gold are the colors of royalty and so it was as Vian basketball celebrated Homecoming with the coronation of 2022 senior Greenlee Wells as Queen and being escorted by Xavin Lackey. Senior attendants included Harlee Carlton, escorted by Michael Moore, Kadence Cochran escorted by Trevor Blackbird, Isabella Cochran escorted by Diego Ramos and Tayden Locust escorted by Desean Mays. Other members of this year’s basketball royalty include junior attendant Emilee Cook-Cobb escorted by K’den Richardson, sophomore attendant Maisie Wells escorted by Yonsi Grass and freshman attendant Kalli Kennedy escorted by Dante Glass. Assisting in the celebration was crown bearer Liam McElhaney and flower girl Rosie Darcy.

The night was made perfect for Queen Greenlee as the Wolverines won a pair of games against Central Sallisaw.

TRADITION CONTINUES

The success of Vian football revolves around the efforts of outstanding football players like Xavin Lackey who was named to the 2022 Oklahoma All-State football team. During his four-year career, the Vian senior was an impact player on both sides of the football. Defensively the 6-1, 230 pound linebacker totaled 389 tackles including five interceptions and seven fumble recoveries. Offensively, Lackey played tailback, fullback and tight end where he totaled 1,935 rushing yards plus 379 yards receiving and scored 36 touchdowns. Lackey will continue his football career next fall at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (NEO).

INFLUENCING THE FUTURE

Congratulations to Olivia Yoder, a junior at Vian High School. Olivia is among 74 high school students across the state of Oklahoma to be named by Joy Hofmeister, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, to serve on the 2022 Student Advisory Council. These students meet to discuss issues they face in school and brainstorm remedies. Feedback from past advisory councils has guided change in educational policies and updates. Students named to the council represent rural, urban, and suburban schools of all sizes. Each member of the select group was recommended by his or her district superintendent.

THE ANSWER IS YES

In an overwhelming voice of support, patrons of the Vian school district passed the bond issue that will pave the way for a new high school building on the campus. Vian students, faculty and administration and members of the school board say THANK YOU to everyone that has made this opportunity to give current and future students the very best. The victory at the polls is another example of WOLVERINE PRIDE!
