Wagoner’s Lynzi Romine Athlete Spotlight Presented by A-Best Roofing

LYNZI ROMINE

WAGONER HIGH SCHOOL

Since she was three years old Wagoner High School senior Lynzi Romine says soccer has been a big part of her life.

“I just started playing when I was little and have always loved the game and then I started playing competitive club ball about three years ago. I’ve played some forward, but I prefer playing outside midfield which is what I play now. I like being able to help up and down the field but also have a chance to attack with the forwards,” said Romine who is also on the Bulldog softball team.

A four-year starter in soccer, she has improved dramatically every year according to her coach Ray Bell now in his first year as head coach after being an assistant to long-time soccer coach Brandon Carr.

“She’s a great person and a good physical soccer player. She’s not a real vocal leader but instead leads by her work ethic in practice and games and the girls really respect her.”

Romine gets leadership help from one of her role models and fellow senior Lanie Brown.

“She’s a good leader and is someone always willing to help and explain things in a helpful, not rude or bossy, way and I think those traits are some of things that make a good leader.”

Part of Lynzi’s soccer success no doubt comes from her mother who played college soccer at Tulsa University and is Lynzi’s main motivator.

“She’s always been there for me in good times and bad and helps me with my shooting by playing goalie while I practice.”

Lynzi has committed to play soccer next year at Oklahoma Baptist University.

“When I started playing competitive soccer, I realized I wanted to try and play in college and so I went to some camps including one at OBU. My mom sent some videos to them, and coach Mike (White) liked what he saw and invited me to practice with them. I liked the atmosphere there and they made me an offer and the whole process was a lot easier than I thought it would be.”

Lynzi says her goal in her last season as a Bulldog is to score at least 10 goals.
