Making the best of his last time on the wrestling mat, Wagoner senior Roman Garcia avenged his only setback of the year with a pin in the Class 4A championship finals at 285 pounds.
Garcia was determined go out on top in the third meeting of the year against his opponent in the finals, Will Restine of Poteau. After winning their first meeting in the Maverick Conference finals, Garcia had to settle for silver in the regional finals following an overtime setback.
With all eyes focused on the 4A finale, Garcia had a game plan to win the gold medal after going home as the runner-up at 245 pounds in 2022. When the opportunity showed itself, Garcia threw his opponent to the mat to record the pin at the 4:53 mark to finish his senior season with a 30-1 record.
Garcia was named to the small East squad for the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State games scheduled for this summer.
A standout on the defensive front for the Bulldogs who won the Class 4A football championship, Garcia will take his athletic talents to the college gridiron on a scholarship offer at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (NEO).
