Warner Eagles 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented By Cross Telephone

Coach: CARTER BRADLEY

8-3

OFFENSE

The Eagles are anxious to fly the nest and kickoff the 2023 campaign led by a cast of proven performers ready to stand the test and continue the winning ways as Carter Bradley enters his first year as head coach. Four sport standout, who boasts a 4.00 GPA and 29 ACT score, Jace Jackson (6-3, 185, Sr.), a VYPE Top 100 nominee enters his third year at quarterback coming off back-to-back 1,000 yard passing seasons as well as rushing for 498 yards and combined for 21 touchdowns a year ago. Preston Cannon (5-9, 180, Jr.) will once again be the workhorse in Warner’s ground attack coming off a sophomore campaign where he totaled 1,344 yards rushing including 15 trips to the end zone.  Another Top 100 nominee and four-year starter Ty Vinson (6-0, 215, Sr.), who also carries a 4.0 GPA and 35 ACT score will once again combine his strength and speed to contribute in a variety of positions including tight end, H-back, fullback or on the offensive line in the Eagles multiple-I formation offense along while another promising performer Lubbock Drake (5-9, 180, Jr.) will line up at H-back.  Warner’s ability to move the football will also require solid performance in the offensive line that will be anchored by two-year starters Jon Brown (6-1, 270, Jr.) and Austin Spradlin (5-10, 230, Jr.) that both have size, strength and mobility.

DEFENSE

Like the offensive approach, the Eagles 3-4 defensive alignment will look to enforce their will against opposing offenses as this year’s line will have size, strength, mobility and playmakers capable of making game changing plays as six starters return.  The leader of the Eagles “sack attack” Easton Girty (6-1, 190, Sr.) who charted 11 sacks and 27 tackles for loss among his 93 tackles returns to his outside linebacker position while Vinson secures the defensive front at end where he made 19 tackles behind the line of scrimmage including six sacks and totaled 78 tackles while Drake made his physical presence known last year at inside linebacker with 79 tackles plus a pair of interceptions. The secondary unit appears to be solid boasting the athleticism and quickness of Jackson to diagnose opposing offenses from his free safety position while cornerbacks Kaleb Spradlin (5-9, 155, Sr.) and Kaden Moseley (5-10, 170, Sr.) won’t shy away from contact against the run or while defending the pass. “All of the kids are buying into the system of being the more physical team on the field that will attack the opponent on every play on both sides of the football,” said Bradley.
