Warner Eagles Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Cross

BOYS

Coach: Anthony Porter

21-22 Record: 12-13

After reaching the Class 2A area tournament last season, the Eagles will try to take the next step in the playoffs as two starters plus several other players with game time experience. Leading the flight in 2022-23 will be Jace Jackson (6-2, G, Jr.) and Blake Ellis (6-6, F, Jr.). “Jace is an all-around player who has been our MVP the past two years with his scoring and consistent efforts defensively. He gives 110 percent every time he’s on the court,” said Anthony Porter, head coach of the Warner boys program. “Blake is our best rebounder, not afraid to mix it up inside. He’s becoming a player to watch inside and outside with the ball in his hands on offense.” Porter also has high expectations for key performances from Jaxson Cash (5-8, Fr.) and Brayden Terrell (6-0, Sr.).

“Jaxson is a great shooter who will make plays on the court you can’t teach and Brayden is the player that no one sees coming until he delivers game changing results defensively as well as shooting the ball,” said Porter. Adam Thompson (6-1, Sr.) consistently makes the extra effort to create success in areas that don’t show in the statistics but improve the Eagles chances for victory through his leadership. The strength of the Eagles will be the ability to create depth and numbers evolving from the play of upperclassmen Julian Hensley (5-10, Sr.), Reed Pickering (5-8, Jr.) and the non-stop energy of sophomore Cotton Swimmer (5-10, So.) and nine more freshmen including Nate Lewis (5-8), Talon Longshore (5-8), Roman Carter (5-8), Kenny Heath (5-7), William Hurst (5- 8), Cale Thompson (5-8), Kyler Lunch (5-10), Ty Sparks (5-6) and Stefan Xavier (6-0).
