Warner’s Wyatt Hamilton – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By CROSS

Although he’s played a lot of different sports in his time at Warner High School, senior Wyatt Hamilton is putting all of his efforts into baseball in his final season as an Eagle.

“I played football my freshman and junior years, basketball my freshman and sophomore years and ran cross country my junior year but this year I’m really concentrating on baseball.

I’ve committed to Southwestern Christian University in Bethany to play college baseball and so I really want to work this year on improving my pitching even more,” said the southpaw Hamilton who is also on the Leadership Team at Warner that does a lot of community work.

“Wyatt has been our guy on the mound ever since I’ve had him,” said head coach Kory Bible. “He’ll throw in every big game we have this year. He recently threw six scoreless innings against Muskogee and beat Leedey which is ranked in Class B. He’s a pretty vocal guy and when he’s feeling good he’s keeping everyone else up and focused on the game.”

Hamilton recalled his early start with the fundamentals of baseball. “When I was small, I had a little bat and ball and I’d hit them all around the house. My dad, mom, brother and uncle all played baseball or softball and we’re a pretty competitive athletic family. As I was growing up, I started watching Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers. He just took my heart and has been a real inspiration to me with his leadership on the mound, his competitiveness and the way he handles himself.”

On the subject of leadership. Wyatt is pretty outspoken. “I’m really talkative and I’m not scared of getting on your butt if you’re doing something wrong. But I also want to pick you up if you’re down on yourself and I just want what’s best for these guys day in and day out.”

As Wyatt hones his skills in his final high school season, he’s got a couple of goals he wants to achieve.

“This spring I want to limit my walks to no more than one per game and have an ERA under 2.00 while throwing strikes and letting my defense work behind me. After I leave Warner, I’d like to be remembered as the left-hand pitcher who threw the ball hard but also as someone who gave back to his community.”
