WOLVERINES TAKE TO THE MAT

With state qualifiers returning to both the girls and boys wrestling teams, new head coach Garrett Willis will hope to gain “bonus points” from a group of energetic and talents athletes this season. Topping the ladder for the girls team will be 3-time state qualifier Avery Richey, who won a gold medal as a sophomore and was a state placer in 2022. “Avery is one of the hardest working kids in our room,” said Willis, “we look to see Avery standing back on top of the podium again.”

Aubrey Gant is a competitor that Willis tabs as an underclassman to watch performer.

Gunnar Richey

The boys team welcomes the return of a state qualifier Gunnar Richey and according to Willis joining a squad that has three or four others that could find their way into the state championships at year end. “Gunnar is definitely the leader in the room. He’s the ‘nose to the grindstone competitor’ you want on your team.” Also expected to add points and medals to the Wolverines wrestling success will by TyRick Mosely, Tristan Wiley, Lane Jameson and Garritt Hunt.

“We are going to be young by most standards. Still yet, our program is one the rise with expectations of returning pride and success to Vian wrestling.”
