Beggs Golden Demons Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Impact Rehab and Wellness

Boys

Coach: David Shannon

21-22 Record: 16-10

David Shannon has had a lot on his plate this fall. He’s been an assistant coach in both football and basketball for several years but unexpectedly inherited the head coaching duties in basketball after school began this year. And since the footballers went deep into the playoffs, basketball has not been on the top of the new coach’s mind. “Working both football and basketball has been a challenge, but I’ve got some good assistants in basketball and since a lot of our basketball players are also football players, we haven’t missed much,” said Shannon.

The new coach will have to start from scratch as all five starters from last year are gone though he does have some kids back who saw some varsity action. Senior Ashwynn Goudeau (6-1) will be the senior leader for this young crew according to Shannon. “He is the most experienced returning player for us. He started a few games last year and he is a real calming presence for us on the floor,” said Shannon. There are also some juniors who will help reorganize the Demons in Jaylen Williams (6-0), Red Martel (5-11) and Ezra Anderson (6-3). “Jaylen is an undersized post player who is a strong rebounder and a hard worker which is what I really like about him. On offense he looks a little awkward when he goes to the hoop but somehow he finds a way to score.

Red is a big strong athlete whose best asset is his defense where he gets a lot of his points off steals. Ezra is very athletic but a raw talent with an unlimited upside. He’ll play inside and be a lot quicker than a lot of the guys that guard him. Sophomores Ryan Grayson ((6-1) and Logan Hicks (5-9) are also expected to be big contributors this year
