Henryetta’s Blake Wynne – Athlete spotlight – Presented by Excel Therapy

By CHANCE BURK

In the sports world, there are many challenges and obstacles that you will face, injuries are one of the biggest obstacles. Injuries can slow athletes down, or make them quit the sport entirely. For Blake Wynne,  he did not let his injury take him out, he let it motivate him to be better than he was before.

Blake Wynne is a senior at Henryetta High School. During his twelve years at Henryetta, Blake has played multiple sports. He has played track, football, baseball, basketball, and was also a member of the cheer team.

Blake had to leave some of the sports he grew up playing because he suffered a severe injury as an eighth grader playing football. “I broke two of my vertebrae in my back, which took a while to fully heal,” said Blake. Although it was a long and painful process, Blake did not let it slow him down or keep him away from what he loved doing.

Out of all the sports Blake has played, track stuck with him. He has participated in track since his sixth-grade year, and his love for it has progressed each year. “I was in track starting in 6th grade and it was fun, but around my sophomore year, something clicked and I knew that it was what I wanted to do,” said Blake.

Blake has since dedicated himself fully to track. “I go to Tulsa for track practice on certain days of the week and I also practice with my school every school day. When I am at home I watch things involving track, it’s kind of my way of watching film,” said Blake. He has completely fallen in love with it and hopes to keep pursuing it in the future.

Blake uses his past as motivation to be better. He has let his recovery motivate and drive him into the athlete he is today and he hopes to have an opportunity to use his motivation at the collegiate level one day.
