Morris Eagle recent graduate Maddie Moore has the distinction of being a three-time All-State athlete in fastpitch and slowpitch softball and basketball. In fast pitch she plays centerfield, in slow pitch she plays various outfield spots, and she is a forward in basketball. In addition, Maddie is on the Lady Eagles track team running the 100- and 200-meter sprints and the 4X200 relay team which qualified for the state track meet this year.
“MY parents were really into sports, so they started me playing early on. I play summer softball and have played AAU basketball in the summer up until this year.”
As a senior this year, Maddie had the responsibility of being one of the team leaders for the Lady Eagles. “I’m usually pretty quiet and lead mostly by example and believe in being an encouraging force for the younger players. I think a good leader is humble and helps your teammates if they’re down. If I have a role model, it’s probably Jayda Coleman of OU. I enjoy watching the team play and go to their games when I can.”
The highlight of her athletic career occurred earlier this school year at a site frequented by Coleman and her Sooner teammates when Morris made it to state in fast pitch for the first time in three years though they lost to eventual state champ Washington which beat three opponents by a combined score of 17-0.
“It was a great and crazy experience getting to play at the Hall of Fame complex,” said Moore.
As her senior year drew to a close, Maddie was faced with the nice but difficult decision of whether to play softball or basketball at the next level as she had offers in both sports.
“It was a hard decision to choose between the two but I had been hurt in basketball a few times and so I decided to go the softball route. I’ll be attending McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas this coming fall. I just liked the energy and family-like atmosphere when I visited there.”
Maddie says she would like to be remembered as someone that was a good role model for the younger players and was a humble person.
