Preston Pirates Basketball Preview – Presented By Impact Rehab and Wellness

BOYS

Coach: Chase Littlejohn

20-21 Record: 7-14

Last year’s growing pains bring this season’s gains as Preston returns its entire roster from a year ago. “A year ago, our lineup was pretty much freshmen and sophomores,” said Chase Littlejohn when recalling his first year as head coach of the Pirates program. “The experience gained under game time conditions gives this year’s squad high expectations.” Point guard Jervais Goree (5-8, So.) who displayed his basketball skills last year by averaging a team high 18 points per game will lead the attack supported by the experience and shooting touch of Markhi Johnson (5-11, Sr.) who added 14-plus points per contest.  Littlejohn expected Keyton Smith (6-2, Jr.) to be a skilled difference maker at forward while Malachi Ligons (6-2, Jr.) provides size and shooting touch from the wing. The Pirates will look to Kareffren Bagby (6-1, Jr.) for strength at forward by maximizing his abilities to pass, dribble and shoot on top of post-up scoring talents.

GIRLS

Coach: Rylie Torrey-Littlejohn

20-21 Record: 14-10

Good things come to those who wait…and for the Lady Pirates the wait is almost over. After a deep playoff run with a young and energetic roster last year, second year head coach Rylie Torrey-Littlejohn expects the fruits of their labor to result in rewards. “We return the majority of our team and expect to build off our experience and take things to a higher level this year.” Mya Tiger (5-9, Sr.) provides a tough inside presence with her ability to win the battle on the boards as well as score where she averaged 8.3 points last season. Adding to the front-line strength will be McKenna Jones (5-10, Jr.) and Shaunassi Jordan (5-10, So.) provide a defensive threat rebounding as well as creating steals with length in addition to putting points on the board. Adrianne Wilson (5-8, Jr.) delivers an athletic presence on both ends of the court as well as score in a variety of ways where she averaged 11.4 points per contest as a sophomore. The perimeter attack gets productivity from Jadyn Roberts (5-8, Jr.) who averaged 9.4 points a year ago while Ashlynn Foster (5-7, Jr.) returns at point guard.
