Weleetka Cheer- Team Spotlight – Presented By Mabrey Bank

Every school’s cheer team is not the same. While some may excel at sideline routines, another may be good at cheer competitions, and others may be best at something else. Jessica Sheneman has been the cheer coach at Weleetka High School off and on for the past seventeen years. She knows what this year’s version of the Outlaw cheer squad is best at and she says that are doing a great job at it.

“I would say our strength this year is school spirit,” Sheneman stated. “This year we decided not to compete but to focus on school spirit & it has been successful.”

One of the cheerleaders on Sheneman’s squad is senior Kendall Sheneman who enjoys all aspects of cheerleading for Weleetka.

“Being a role model for the younger kids is probably what I enjoy most about cheering for our school,” she stated. “I also love cheering alongside my teammates because we always have a fun time no matter what we are doing.”

Coach Sheneman says that the team’s focus on school spirit has been evident throughout the school district and they still have more things planned.

“We had great participation in Homecoming Spirit Week this year with the majority of the student body participating in dressing up each day,” she said. “We conducted a summer kids cheer camp and will do a cheer clinic for football and basketball for our elementary students.”

Hailey Wilson, who is a junior on the cheer squad, says that the bond between all of her teammates is something that makes being a part of the team really fun.

“We’re always having fun but also working hard,” she said. “We all have a pretty close relationship and love spending time together. Another favorite thing is seeing all the little kids cheer us on in the stands and get so excited when we get on the field.”

Another senior on the team, Hailey Fisk, enjoys setting an example for future Outlaw cheerleaders is something that she appreciates the most.

“I enjoy getting the opportunity to be a role model for the younger kids and setting standards,” Fisk stated. “We always find a way to fix problems like in stunts and chants and we all get along pretty well.”
