ISAIAH AND ISAAC DRAKE

WELEETKA HIGH SCHOOL

Brothers Isaiah and Isaac Drake are leading the Weleetka Outlaws to a special season so far in 2023. At the mid-way point of the season, they are 6-1 on the year and co-leaders in their district. Isaiah is a sophomore and is the quarterback with 1000 yards and 16 touchdowns to his credit and Isaac is a junior running back with 684 yards rushing and 217 receiving and a total of 13 touchdowns. Their coach is Tristan Carrigan.

“When I took this job a couple of years ago Isaac was a freshman and Isaiah was in eighth grade and people told me then how special these kids would be and they’ve both pretty much lived up to the hype. But they’re also just great kids. They live right by the school so they’re up here helping me on weekends doing laundry and stuff like that. The success of our season will be based on how far these guys take us,” said Carrigan.

As you might expect there is a bit of a competitive nature between the two brothers.

“It’s fun to play but I’m better,” said Isaac. “He gets mad a lot when I lock him up in basketball.”

And from the other corner?

“Isaac can’t stand up to me. I’m better than him in all the sports except football probably because he’s faster than me,” said Isaiah.

Their dad played football so that’s how they both got their start in the game, and both are active in FFA as well as all the other major sports. Isaac does welding through FFA while Isaiah is into skeet shooting.

As the older of the two, Isaac has started honing his leadership skills.

“I’m not really very vocal but I lead by example by working hard at practice and teaching the young ones how to do the right thing.”

Isaiah pretty well sums up the season so far for the Outlaws.

“I think we’ve got a good shot a going a long way-maybe even getting the gold ball,” said the sophomore signal caller. “We’ve got a lot of guys back and our only loss so far is to Regent Prep which is ranked like third in the state.”
