In the heart of the Weleetka basketball team, Terran Pitts, a rising star at Weleetka High School, shares his passion and hopes for the upcoming season. Terran’s journey is not just about the game but also the profound impact of family ties in shaping his basketball odyssey.
“My dad, by far, is my favorite coach,” Terran said. “He’s always pushed me further than what I’ve thought I could go and taught me I always have more left in me.” However, being coached by his father comes with its own set of expectations. “I am expected to work above and beyond everyone else for that reason.”
“Coaching my kids has always been my dream,” Coach Cory Pitts, his father said. “I was fortunate enough to Coach my daughter, Maddy, throughout high school and love that I’ve been able to do the same with Terran. Terran’s drive and dedication is second to none. He loves his teammates and focuses on playing for them. I love this kid and this team. I look forward to a great year and many more to come, but I will be lost without him.”
Terran is supported by his teammates, a crucial aspect of squad development. “My teammates also have a big role in how I play,” he said. “They make me a better player and always have my back. All of them are great players and I wouldn’t trade them for any other team.”
Alongside his father, his mother has also played a significant role in Terran’s life: “My mom also plays a role in how I play. She always stays on me about being humble because I tend to get a little cocky on occasions. She’s always kept me in check about that and I’m hardly that way anymore because of her. She’s always pushed me to be the best I can be just as my dad does, she just pushes me to be better more off the court and it translates to my game.”
Looking ahead, Terran sets ambitious goals. “As an individual this season, I want to get offers from a couple of colleges. As as a team, I expect no less than us to go get a championship and be undefeated.”
The anticipation builds as Terran looks forward to pivotal matchups. “Matchup wise, I’m looking forward to the Wetumka game. They are our rivals, and I expect to beat them this year with no excuses.”
Beyond high school, Terran envisions a future where he continues to showcase his skills on a larger stage. “I have a couple of plans after high school, but the main goal is to go play college ball. I’ll be taking classes for computer programming, and I may go get my CNA on the side.”
