MASON ALLFORD

Wetumka Chieftains

By Payton Moody

Wetumka High School’s football program has found a true player in senior running back Mason Allford. With an impressive list of accomplishments and an unwavering dedication to his team, Mason has not only earned the VYPE MVP nomination but has also captured the attention of his coaches, teammates and fans.

Standing at 5’10” and weighing 185 pounds, Mason Allford is not just an outstanding running back; he’s a versatile player who makes an impact on both offense and defense. Last season, he recorded 86 tackles, one interception, and two fumble recoveries as a linebacker while also shining on the offensive side with 1,200 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns. However, what sets Mason apart is not just his athletic abilities but also his commitment to teamwork and dedication to self-improvement.

When asked about his favorite coach, Mason pointed to a special figure who has played a pivotal role in his development – his father. “My dad has been the coach that’s pushed me and helped me become a better player and better as a person,” he said.

In the realm of camaraderie, Mason looks up to none other than his brother, Alex Allford, who serves as the team’s quarterback. “I admire my brother a lot; he’s an amazing athlete who works hard and cares about making everyone else better,” Mason said.

Football, for Mason, is more than just a sport; it’s a valuable teacher of life lessons. “Football has taught me that you can’t do everything yourself. You have to work as a team and not as an individual,” he said.

As the upcoming season approaches, Mason is not short on aspirations. “I hope to accomplish bettering myself as a player and helping my teammates better themselves, and I hope to win a gold ball,” he said, setting high standards for both him and his team.

Looking ahead to the exciting matchups of the season, Allford eagerly anticipates facing Regent Prep, a team that bested them last year, as well as their rivals, Weleetka.

Beyond high school, Mason envisions a future in nursing school, showing his compassion and dedication to helping others. He also hopes to continue his athletic pursuits exploring opportunities in track or football.
