OFFENSE
The Mustangs offense will return three starters and continue to do what they do best – cater to what their athletes are best at to put them in a position to win. Klay Brinkley (5-10, 210, Sr.) steps into a new role this season filling the roles of quarterback, fullback, and tight end. He works hard and is smart when it comes to X’s and O’s. Cooper Alvarez (6-1, 210, Sr.) will contribute in many areas including fullback, running back, and tight end. Alvarez is the strongest kid in the weight room, and extremely hard worker, and never misses practice or activities. Carl Brake will be another player who will get quality carries this season.
DEFENSE
Their defensive philosophy is gap responsibility and “don’t lose the play on pre-snap misalignment.” Brinkley will be key on both sides of the ball as a linebacker as well. Carlos Rodriguez (6-0, 220, Sr.) will be a strong anchor for the defensive line. “This year’s team has something to prove,” said head coach Auston Reed. “They have lost some seniors in a talented group and lost their last head coach. The boys are working hard in the off-season. Overall, they are a hard-working group of kids eager to surprise people this season.” Coach Reed is joined by assistants Mark Weatherton and Richard Reed.
