Broken Arrow’s Tyler Crawford Presented by Northeastern State University

NORTHEASTERN STATE

The road to Tahlequah has been a little round-about for junior Tyler Crawford but he’s happy about finally getting here. Aftergraduating from Broken Arrow High School, Tyler headed for the University of Nebraska but after his first year there, a coaching change changed his outlook.

“A new special teams coach came in and brought some of his players with him and wanted them to play so I went to the transfer portal and coach Eckert called me and we talked, and I really got the feeling that he believed in me and that’s important to me,” said Crawford. “I love a challenge and helping try to turn this program around is something that I’ve enjoyed.”

Since coming to NSU, Crawford has been one of the top punters and place kickers in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association including a career-long 53-yard field goal last year. His philosophy about tackling college life is a sound one for athletics and academics both.

“Life is about doing the little things right and that’s true on both the football field and in the classroom. Adjusting to college life takes a bit of a learning curve but it’s mostly about self-discipline. It’s mostly about knowing when to the put the phone or video game down and get on the computer to study without having someone over your shoulder to remind you.”

Tyler is studying Environmental Health and Safety Management and the outdoor atmosphere that NSU offers with its rivers and lakes is much to his liking.

“I love the outdoors and the opportunities of this major and not being stuck behind a desk all day is pretty appealing to me. I like to get out and fish or just throw a frisbee and be outside.”

As we said, Tyler Crawford is happy he found his way to NSU and would recommend it to any high school senior thinking about the future.

“I would recommend NSU 10 out of 10 for a college experience. It’s really like family here and for athletes looking for a college home, I know from experience that NSU can give you the opportunity to be successful on the field while getting your school paid for.”
