22-23 Record: 16-10
With all five starters returning from last year’s lineup that was just a step away from a trip to the Big House, the Ironheads expect to find their identity from the opening tip. The sharp shooting guard duo of Allie Anderson (5-6, Sr.), a VYPE Top 100 choice for a second year who paced Eufaula’s scoring averaging 10.6 points per game while securing 4.6 rebounds and Kambry Williams (5-4, Sr.) who narrowly missed double-digits as a junior totaling 9.3 point per contest will reunite with Jordas McLish (5-7, Sr.) who produced 4.5 points and 4.8 rebounds a year ago to captain the Ironheads roster. Head coach Nick Yarbrough smiles when looking at this year’s roster of experienced players that will also include Jadence Effurd (5-10, Jr.) and Kate Pippenger (5-8, Jr.) along with Maddie Ballard (5-6, Jr.) and Johna Bumgarner (5-9, So.) and create balance from the perimeter into the paint.
“Allie is our point guard and she does a really good job reading the court and getting us into our offense. She also uses her basketball IQ to not just create passes to open players but also make steals on defense,” said Yarbrough. “Johna has worked very hard to make herself into a mature player on defense as well as a 3-point shooter. Jaden’s mobility enables her to play a key role in our defense including being a shotblocker.” Quality depth off the bench will be an added plus for Eufaula this season including Adi McKinzie (5-7, Sr.), Kylie Pendley (5-6, So.), Lauren Gray (5-7, So.), Ava Rose Johnson (5-3, So.), Briley Gragg (5-5, So.), Abby Box (5-6, Fr.), Hannah Beaver (5-5, Fr.) to provide perimeter scoring while Ariel Greenlee (6-1, So.), Takiya Boling (5-10, So.), Emma Westfall (6-1, Fr.) and Burkleigh Lange (5-10, Fr.) will strengthen play in the paint. “Experience plus the energy of younger players creates a high sense of expectation for us,” said McKinzie.
