Eufaula Ironheads Softball Preview – Presented by Bank of Eufaula

Coach: RYAN GREEN

OUTLOOK

The Ironheads of Eufaula will be young but full of talent, energy and, with a handful of returning starters, could find a way to get past the Class 3A regionals where their season ended last year. There’s just one senior on the roster and that’s Liberty Glover who pitches and is a utility player when she’s not in the circle. “Liberty has pitched for us for three years, going 10-4 last year with 57 strikeouts and a 2.34 ERA,” said head coach Ryan Green. ‘She also led the team in hitting last year with a .324 average.”

Also shining in the circle last year was junior Avery Williams who is a VYPE TOP 100 pick for 2022. She was 13-7 last season with 108 strikeouts and a 2.08 ERA and played shortstop when she wasn’t pitching. “When Avery is in the circle, she gives us a chance to compete in every game,” said Green. “She works fast and throws a ton of strikes, so she controls the flow the game. In the field she is extremely solid, and she handles the bat well hitting .307 last year.” Handling Williams and Glover behind the plate will again be junior catcher Kambry Williams. “Kambry has done most of our catching the past two seasons handling our pitchers and controlling multiple aspects of the game from behind the plate. Last year she threw out 10 runners trying to steal and picked off another seven. She’s a very heady offensive players and a smart, aggressive base runner,” said Green.

Other returning starters include junior third baseman Gabby Noriega who, in addition to her softball activities, is also the reigning Junior Miss Muscogee Nation and travels around representing the Creek nation. Also back are sophomores Kadie Jo Tidwell and Kate Pippenger. “Kate worked her way to the leadoff spot a couple of weeks into her freshman year and has never looked back,” said Green. “She hit .319 with 30 stolen bases and has great range defensively.”

Other players looking to start or make more of an impact in 2022 include junior Allie Anderson, sophomores Jadence Efurd, Amberly Adcock, Aundrea Tagg, and Maddie Ballard. Green will also have his eye on a group of talented freshmen including Mattie Huffman, Rayleigh Peterson, Shyanne Madewell, and Ava Johnson to make a play for a starting spot. “We felt we had a successful season last year and look to continue building each year and be in the hunt at the end of September,” said Green. “Defense should be our strong suit while putting pressure on opposing defenses with timely hitting will be a key to our success this year.”
