Eufaula Lady Ironheads Softball Preview – Presented By Bank of Eufaula

EUFAULA LADY IRONHEADS

Coach: Ryan Green

2020 Record: 11-16

The valuable lessons learned under fire in 2020 bring an outlook of skyrocketing optimism as Eufaula returns everyone to their roster this fall. The competitive nature of the Lady Ironheads roster will result in a high energy level on the softball diamond this fall.

“We return everybody,” said head coach Ryan Green who enters his sixth season in the dugout, “and we’re still a young team with only three seniors on the roster. The freshmen we have this fall will be in the mix for playing time too.”

Pitching will be a position of depth as Eufaula returns sophomore Avery Williams to the circle with a strong-arm reserve in junior thrower Liberty Glover.

“Avery is a competitor who knows how to throw strikes and Liberty can control the game on the bump as well,” said Green.

Williams, who also plays shortstop, consistently puts the ball in play from the leadoff spot in the batting order and Glover has pop in her bat hitting third in the lineup.

Unfortunately, a knee injury will sideline senior second basemen Addison McLaughlin this fall. The only two seniors remaining include a big stick in first baseman Mykah Osborne who can make key plays with the glove while outfielder McKenzie Crawley adds to the defensive efforts in the outfield.

A trio of sophomores will play vital roles again this season including the Lady Ironhead vocal leader on defense Kambry Williams at catcher joined by third baseman Gabby Noriega and rally leader Jordas McLish who will see action in a variety of positions.

“Defense is a strong suit for us and that keeps you in a lot of games,” said Green. “I expect this team to be able to produce runs in a variety of ways whether it’s small ball with bunts and quickness as well as swing the big stick to move runners and score runs.”
