Heavener

Heavener’s Dalton Semore  – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Sans Bois Hospice

Senior Dalton Semore will be under center at quarterback for his third year this fall as the Heavener Wolves look to get the program back on solid footing. Last year Semore threw for 793 yards and 10 touchdowns while averaging almost 10 yards a completion. He also proved to be a strong dual threat by leading the Wolves in rushing with 347 yards and five touchdowns. New head coach Jeff Broyles acknowledges that he likes what he’s seen of Semore thus far.

“When I first met him, I knew he was driven and that’s something that’s been needed in this program. He’s becoming a good leader and continuing to improve. I brought in a quarterback coach to work with him and if he spends some more time in the weight room, I think he could have a shot at playing at the next level.”

Dalton started out playing young though admittedly a little reluctantly.

“My dad got me into football in the third grade and I didn’t want to play at first but he kind of pushed the issue and as I played more, I grew to love it,” said Semore who also plays basketball and baseball for the Wolves.

As he grew up, he and his dad have developed a different kind of rivalry.

“My dad grew up in California and is a die-hard Oakland Raiders fan. We moved to Oklahoma, and I grew up admiring Tony Romo and Dax Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys, so we have our differences on Sundays,” chuckled Dalton.

Semore may end up being the only senior on the Wolves team this year which will put additional leadership pressure on him, but he feels up to the task.

“One of the reasons I like football best out of my three sports is that I feel like I can be more of a leader there. I think a good leader is someone who never gives up and keeps on going even when it feels like the tank may be empty. You’ve also got to be there for your guys when they need you.”

When he’s checking out social media Dalton says he likes to visit the Dallas Cowboys fan page as well as the posts of quarterback Tom Brady “because he’s one of the greatest of all times.”

After his time at Heavener is up Dalton hopes to play college football somewhere and eventually go into coaching or maybe physical therapy.
