OFFENSE

The Henryetta Knight’s new head coach Weston McGill has had to hit the ground running and is still learning about the team that he inherited. Not hired until April, the new head coach got a limited look at his team in spring ball and is still working to put all the pieces in the right place. “We have a pretty young group of kids and expect our two senior linemen, Ethan Green and Isaac McNac, to lead the way,” said McGill. “We’re going to need some juniors and sophomores to step up and compete this year and the ones that work the hardest and show up every day will end up playing.” As McGill noted Green (6-0, 210, Sr.) and McNac (5-7, 280, Sr.) along with tight end Camern Berryhill (6-1, 180, Sr.) will be the strength of the offense from an experience and leadership standpoint. Tyler Hamric (5-11, 180, So.) will join those three on the offensive line. Brady Norman (6-0, 170, So.) was one of five signal callers the Knights used last year so he got some valuable experience as a freshman while averaging over eight yards a completion on 31 connections. The running back chores will be in the hands of David Reid (5-8, 150, Jr.) who had around 300 yards rushing as one of several running backs last season.

DEFENSE

McGill will incorporate a 3-3 stack defense with emphasis on stopping the run at all costs but will have only four returning starters to help accomplish that goal. The aforementioned Green will be in charge of the D-line while at linebacker is Seth Kinslow (6-1, 180, Jr.) who will be working with youngster James Miller who McGill says has a nose for the ball and should have plenty of stats by the end of the season. The defensive backfield will consist of Reid and Brayden Chacon (5-9, 150, Jr.) and whoever else steps up to compete. The Knights will move to District 2A-5 this year with a whole new set of opponents in Okemah, Keys, Vian, Prague, Tahlequah Sequoyah, Warner, and Roland.
