McCurtain’s Clayne Honeycutt   – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Compassion Home Care

When standing in centerfield, his thoughts are focused on the batter at the plate and where the ball may travel when its hit. When Clayne Honeycutt races to the dugout after making the play for the out, his smile tells why he enjoys his time wearing the McCurtain uniform.

“I just enjoy sharing the win with my teammates,” said the 2023 senior, who along with Braden Ward are the only two seniors on the McCurtain roster this fall. “We’re all like brothers, we play as a family.”

The family spirit of the Bulldogs dugout explains why Honeycutt strives to make a difference, both on and off the field.

“I just try to set an example by my efforts, help any way I can,” claimed Honeycutt in a voice of humility. “Whatever it takes to win, just be someone who can pick his teammates up.”

In the classroom, Honeycutt, who takes care of his assignments by earning A’s and B’s, says his favorite subject is English because he really doesn’t like math. If given the choice to choose the post game meal after a big win, Honeycutt would ask coach Mills to stop at Buffalo Wild Wings.

His daily approach to success is what draws praise from his coach.

“No matter what’s happening, nothing phases him, he doesn’t get rattled,” said coach Mike Mills. “He brings stability and leadership to the team through his hard work. Clayne is definitely a young man of high character.”

Whether it’s using his speed to close the gaps in the outfield or just walking the halls at school, Honeycutt welcomes the opportunity to be a game changer.

“My mom (Latisha) has demonstrated to me the importance of influence and loyalty. She’s always been there for me no matter what,” Honeycutt said in appreciation. “I try to prove to everyone by my actions that you can always count on me to be in your corner.”
