OFFENSE

There will be a lot of new for the Roland Rangers in 2022 starting with a new head coach in Austin Cantrell, who takes the reins for his high school alma mater. There will also be a lot of new faces in the lineup for Roland as graduation took nine starters away leaving a lot of youngsters to fill the void. Most of the returning experience for the Rangers will be in the offensive line headed by Mason Schalski (6-2, 265, Sr.) and Jacob Resendez (6-2, 250, Jr.) with Desean Cruse (6-3, 210, Sr.) at either tight end or tackle. Running back chores will be shared by Ashton Peters (6-0, 220. Jr.) and Kejuan Youngblood (5-10, 155, Jr.). “Ashton is a leader on and off the field. He holds himself to a very high standard every day and wants to be the best at everything he does,” said Cantrell. “Kejuan is a gifted athlete who had to play in the shadow of a senior last year. This year I believe we’ll see him step out of that shadow and help us win some games.” Dakota Price (6-2, 140, Jr.) will be a valued receiver along with Logan Lorenz who is also the kicker while there’s a battle shaping up for the quarterbacking spot between Logan Dow (6-1, 200, Jr.) and Michael Taylor (5-11, 180, So.). Cantrell will run a one-back set with an emphasis on ball control.

DEFENSE

The Rangers will switch to a 4-3 defense this year with Schalski, Joseph Stone (6-0, 215, So.) and Alex Bower (6-0, 180, Jr.) on the line making life miserable for opposing offenses. The linebackers will be Taylor, Peters, and Dow. Finding replacements in the secondary will be a top priority for Cantrell and his staff during the summer. “The 2022 season will be a learning experience for us,” said Cantrell. “We graduated nine starters who had a tremendous impact on both sides of the ball. So, we are needing guys to step up and take on those roles and I believe we have the right guys with the right attitude to do it.” The Rangers will operate in a greatly revised District 2A-5 this year with Roland, Keys and Vian remaining and joined by newcomers Prague, Sequoyah- Tahlequah, Warner, Okemah, and Henryetta.
