Stigler’s Averie Amos – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Cross Internet

When an athlete competes in a team sport, they compete alongside their teammates and go up against the opponent on the other side of the field or court. But in an individual sport like golf, you are the only one that can affect your score. Averie Amos loves the game of golf and says that her toughest critic is the person she sees in the mirror.

“I believe that my biggest opponent is myself, especially in golf because it is a real mind game,” she said. “While competing in tournaments though, I do see others as competition. I have always thought that my biggest threat was myself so when we do compete in tournaments I always try and beat the score I received the tournament before, making myself my biggest opponent.”

Amos is a senior at Stigler High School. Along with golf, she is also a member of the student council, speech and drama, and the school’s leadership club. She has worked hard to get where she is today, and Averie says it takes a lot of investment to be your best.

“It has taken a lot for me to be successful in golf,” Amos stated. “I believe that hard work, dedication, the right attitude and outlook on the game, and the overall love I have for golf is what has led me to be successful in it.  These things, along with the people that really influence and motivate me, are the reasons why I have become successful in this sport.”

Throughout her career, Amos has enjoyed some memorable moments both on and off the course. She says that while she enjoys them all, there is one that she really loves.

“I believe that making it to state this year for the second year in a row with my team has been the highlight of my career. We have all worked very hard to achieve the things we have, especially when most of us were also involved in many other sports and activities this spring. I believe that being able to compete at state as a senior this year, along with my amazing coach, teammates, and family has definitely been the highlight of my career.”
