Vian Lady Wolverines
Coach: Albis Ramos
2020 Record: 21-7
Entering his 14th season as the coach of the Lady Wolverines fastpitch softball team, Albis Ramos has plenty to smile about when considering the opportunities for success this fall as Vian welcomes the return of six multi-year starters to the lineup.
“Altogether we can combine our experience with our athleticism which gives us a chance for a good season,” explained the veteran mentor. “When you mix in the freshmen and create a team chemistry, it’s going to give us a chance to win a lot of games. Our hitting, team defense and pitching will create a good unit this year.”
A four year starter, Greenlee Wells will top the talent on the dirt whether she’s in the circle or at the plate. Wells went 21-7 last season with a 1.57 ERA while producing a .470 batting average including 41 RBI. Kadence Cochran, another four-year regular will anchor one corner of the infield at first base while sophomore Macie Wells returns to her position at third base and three-year veteran, Maci Smith, has a dependable glove at shortstop. Completing the infield defensive efforts will be a talented sophomore Makayla Drew who returns at second base.
“I like this group because they’re going to bring their A-game to the park every day. As a coach, you definitely want and expect that,” said Ramos. “When we get good hitting, solid defense, dependable pitching, it’s a team that can win our district and make a deep run into the playoffs this fall.”
