OFFENSE

The Webbers Falls Warriors just missed the playoffs last year after making it in 2020 but they lost only one senior so coach Trent Holt is juiced about this year’s prospects. “We are very excited about our upcoming season. We have a lot of returning players in our skill positions and we expect to compete for playoff contention in 2022,” said Holt. A big part of that is the return of three-year starting quarterback Maddux Shelby (5-9, 170, Jr.) who rushed for nearly 1600 yards last season and passed for 660 yards and 10 touchdowns. “Maddux is a gifted athlete and the hardest working player we have on the team,” said Holt. “He leads with great character on and off the field.” Also returning in the backfield is running back Blaize Herriman (5- 9, 185, Sr.) who stepped into that spot last year and rushed for 420 yards and eight touchdowns. Caden Dishman (6-2, 220, Sr.) is the big tight end who flagged down 14 of Shelby’s passes last year, putting it in the end zone five times. Another name that Holt will look to add to the running back corps is youngster Zane Nolan who saw some varsity action last season and who Holt is expecting to have a breakout year. The Warriors will run out of the split-I with two backs.

DEFENSE

That year of experience will also benefit the Warrior defense this year with seven returning starters. Shelby, who led the team with 68 tackles and a pair of interceptions last year, will be back at linebacker joined by Chandler Long  (5-8, 178, Sr.). “Chandler is dedicated and very coachable and even though he’s a little undersized for the positions he plays. He makes up for it with strength and determination,” said Holt. Aiden Turley (6-0, 200, So.) will be at one defensive end spot and Dishman will be on the other. “Caden is a four-year starter who is really strong and shows it every time he plays. He’s a great team leader for us,” said Holt. Life might be a little harder for the Warriors and others in District B-5 this year with the addition of perennial playoff foe Midway as well as Caddo in the mix replacing Weleetka and Wetumka.
