Coach: Brooks Cawhorn Jr.
22-23 Record: 7-19
The Howe Lion boys’ basketball team, under the leadership of head coach Brooks Cawhorn Jr. and assistant coach Britt Brown, is looking ahead for an exciting season. After finishing the 2022 season with a 7-19 record, the Lions are brimming with enthusiasm and hope to take significant strides forward. Coach Cawhorn, in his first year at Howe High School, brings a fresh perspective and a focus on player development: “We are extremely excited about this year’s team.
We had an outstanding off season that some of our younger players make significant growth. We will continue to improve defensively and hope that our offense follows accordingly.” Garrett Smith (5-9, Jr.) has been a cornerstone of the team. A solid defender and excellent distributor of the basketball, he’s set to provide more offensive firepower this season. Leading the team in minutes played last season, Smith is expected to be a driving force for the Lions. Ethan Dalton (6-0, So.) brings versatility to the team. Known for his perimeter defense and tenacity on the offensive glass, he is set to take on a more significant offensive role this season. Josh Toney (5-9, Sr.) is the embodiment of a relentless work ethic. He maximizes his potential, serving as a fantastic teammate who is always willing to do whatever it takes for the team’s success. His dedication to the little things makes him an invaluable asset. Braden Blake (6-2, Sr.) is a player with an inspirational story. Despite two consecutive off-seasons recovering from knee surgery, he remains determined and resilient. His contribution will be integral to the team’s success. The Howe Lions are excited to showcase their growth and improvements in the 2023-24 basketball season. With a mix of experienced players and talented underclassmen, they are prepared to leave it all on the court. Keep an eye on the Lions as they aim to make their mark in the upcoming season.
