Shiloh Fletcher has been a part of two state championship basketball teams at Howe High School, will be gunning for a three-peat in this, her senior season, and she’s already made a commitment to play at the next level so there’s not a lot left for this Lady Lion point guard to accomplish in her high school career. But according to her coach she’s out there giving it her all just because she loves to play basketball.

“She’s just a natural point guard and she averaged 11.2 points a game with 66 steals last season and a lot of games were blowouts where she didn’t play the whole game,” said her coach Chris Brown. “Here at Howe, we emphasize the assist-to-turnover ratio a lot for our point guards. We would like it to be at least 2.5 to 1 but Shiloh has beaten that mark every year. She’s also a great team leader. She leads the team in prayer before each game and is taking an even bigger role this year.”

Shiloh says her faith plays a big part in her everyday life and how she chooses to lead her teammates.

“A big part of life is my relationship with God, so I want to make sure I show that as an example to my teammates,” said Fletcher who also discussed how her faith played a part in her decision to commit to play next year at Oklahoma Christian College.

“I had a couple of offers before OCC contacted me, but they just didn’t feel right and playing college ball was something I had been praying for all of my life. So when OCC contacted me and I visited I knew it was a God-thing.”

You can even see some of that faith in the way she approaches being a team leader.

“I don’t want them to think I can be bossy just because I’m a senior, but I want them to see me as a teammate and someone to help guide them,” said Shiloh who says she likes to watch former Sooner Trey Young play.

“He’s never been the tallest guy but even as an NBA rookie he came in and led his team. I like to watch his ball handling and his three-point shooting.”

Having been to the Big House twice in her career, Shiloh has some distinct highlights, one of which was surprising.

“I guess a highlight would be a couple of three-pointers I hit late in our semifinal game against Latta. In the championship game I wasn’t shooting well but coach left me in anyway because of my leadership and that meant a lot to me.”
