McCurtain’s Katlynn Blaylock – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Compassion Home care

While the definition of leadership may vary from one person to another, Katlynn Blaylock believes your actions speak louder than anything you might say.

“It’s all about trying to lead by example,” the 2023 senior at McCurtain High School said. “I try to always be there for my teammates and help them through whatever troubles they may be facing. I want to help them achieve their goals and become better players.”

Blaylock shares her passion in a variety of ways, including playing softball, as well serving others as the manager for the Bulldogs’ basketball program.

“As manager and videographer for the boys team, I always think about them first. I want to make sure they have everything they need for the game,” Katlynn said. “I try my hardest to film the games the best that I can so they can watch their film and learn from everything that has happened throughout the game.”

As a member of the school’s softball teams, Katlynn didn’t let an injury keep her from providing a spark to the Bulldogs’ fastpitch team.

“My favorite part about being on a team is my girls. They have always been the best part about playing softball. Being on this team has helped change my perspective on a lot of things and they have helped to better me as a player and a person,” said the outfielder, while cherishing the influence of another teammate.

“Bailey Bennett and I were both injured during the fastpitch season, but the injuries did not slow us down. We have both jokingly said, ‘The tag team duo will be back for slow pitch.’ Bailey continued to push me throughout the season and never let me give up, something I will never forget.”

Described as charismatic, outgoing and hard working, Blaylock, who has earned a 4.25 grade point average, also credits the influence of her parents for her success.

“They have always been supportive in the decisions I have made,” she said. “They are always the first to push me to do something, even if I don’t think I can do it. I know that without my parents I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

With a music playlist that includes everything from country to rap, Blaylock is a traditional girl whose favorite food is chicken strips and French fries. And, if you want something done the right way the first time, Katlynn Blaylock is definitely the player you want at the top of the lineup.
