Panama Razorbacks – Basketball Preview – Presented By Shane Riggs of Shelter Insurance

BOYS

Coach: Wes Tackett

20-21 Record: 13-7

The boys are back in town for head coach Wes Tackett. “I return my top six from last year,” said coach Tackett. “We’re pretty excited to see what my guys can do.” Bryce Tackett (5-10, Sr.) will run the point where he accounted for 20 points per game with 6.0 assists and 7.0 rebounds. He is a very special player and team leader for the Razorbacks. Tackett is a hard worker who puts in countless hours improving his craft. Another player to watch is Jaggar Phillips (6-2, Sr.). Phillips is another guard that brings a lot to the table for Panama. Phillips averaged 20 points a game with 4.0 rebounds. Also a gym rat, Phillips coupled with Tackett is a tough matchup for any opponent. An underclassman to watch is Tyler Simkins. Simkins has a high basketball IQ and is a very unselfish player. Look for this team to pick up where they left off last season as coach Tackett and the Razorbacks are poised for another successful season.

GIRLS

Coach: Victor Pierce

20-21 Record: 3-14

The Ladybacks have a lot to be excited for coming into the new season. Head coach Victor Pierce has several pieces of the puzzle in place, and he is looking to get this team on the winning track. “The 2021-22 Panama Ladybacks will bring back the core of young players from last year having only graduated one senior,” said coach Pierce. Hailey Blair (5-5, Jr.) is one of the players looking to turn things around. Blair averaged 13 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game last year. Blair is the leading scorer from a year ago. Krista Dotson (5-2, Jr.) fought through injuries last season and is ready to make a big impact this year. Kelcee Ward (5-6, Sr.) was huge on the boards last year averaging 8.0 rebounds a game. She also threw in 5.0 points and grabbed 4.0 steals. Hanna Fox (5-5, Sr.) is another guard to watch this season. Fox averaged 4.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Gabi Whiteaker (5-7, Sr.) will start at forward where she averaged 6.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a junior.
