After reaching the Class 2A state tournament a year ago, there’s a raging expectation to be among the teams reaching the Big House next March. “Despite graduating six seniors, I believe that this year’s team has a chance to be just as good, or better than last year’s state tournament squad,” replied head coach Derek Barlow. “While it will certainly be a young team with lots to learn, this year’s team should be a lot of fun to watch and will continue to develop as the season plays on.” Barlow anticipates his lineup will once again be able to get scoring from every position on the court as well as defend with improved efficiency this season. A key figure in Pocola’ success will revolve around the skills of shooting guard Garret Scott (6-3, Jr.). “Garret has worked very hard to improve his skills, his strength, and his athleticism.
That hard work is started to pay serious dividends,” Barlow confirmed. Dakota Terrell (6-6, So.) adds length and the ability to score anywhere on the court while creating defensive prowess at the rim. With only one senior on the roster, Zac Jones (6-0), the youth of the Pocola lineup will need to grow up under fire. Point guard Austin Harwick (5-7, Jr.) and shooting guard Drew Jones (6-1, Jr.) will play key roles while two sophomores are expected be see plenty of minutes on the court including AJ Lyons-Jerrell (6-0, So.) and Chris Pugh (6-0, So.) along with an eager to prove their skills group of freshmen including DaQuayne Terrell (5-6, Fr.), Brayden Hardwick (5-9, Fr.), Sean Smith (5-6, Fr.), Carson Taylor (5-5, Fr.) an Jackson Parker (5-11, Fr.).
