POTEAU PIRATES
BOYS
Coach: Ronnie Sockey
22-23 Record: 8-15
Playing strong defense will be a key this season for the Poteau Pirates as they labor under the watchful eye of second year coach Ronnie Sockey as the Pirates return just a couple of real experienced players from last year. One of those is senior Wyatt Gamble who was injured at the end of last season which really affected the Pirates as they lost four straight going into the playoffs. The other sparkplug for the Pirate machine is senior Connor Whitworth.
The Pirates have several other seniors that should figure into a leadership and/or playing role including Darion Brooks, Dax Collins, Jaxon Hurst, Perry Burke, Perry Brady and Kallen Ramirez. There is also a good mix of juniors and sophomores on the Poteau roster thatshould add depth and give the starters a break now and then. In the sophomore group are Jacob Gutierrez, Kainan Riley, Landon Mullins, Huestin Stroops, Collin Adams, Kris Mcnac, and Charlie Thompson. Juniors that will be counted on to push the upperclassmen and find their way forward are Drew Stone, Hudson Burdick, Walyn and Rylin Waddell, Adrian Conchos, and Rylan Richmond. “We’re going to have a mix of young kids and a few returning players,” said coach Ronnie Sockey. “If we can stay healthy, we will have a shot at being a factor in the regional tournament. Our defense is going to be a huge key for us to win more games this season.”
