ROLAND RANGERS
BOYS
Coach: Ed Lewis
22-23 Record: 24-3
To spend 41 years at the same high school is a pretty major accomplishment but veteran Ranger coach Ed Lewis has done that and plans to just make a couple of reloads and send the “Running Rangers” off towards what he hopes will be another trip to Oklahoma City for the state tournament. “We return two starters who have played in back-to-back state tournaments, and we have several guys who earned playing time last year as underclassmen. We’ll replace those seniors who graduated and complete for another state tournament appearance and pick up a gold ball,” said Lewis. One of the returning starters that Lewis will rely on this year is Carson Wiggins (6-5, Sr.) who averaged a double-double for the Rangers last year with 15 points and 10 rebounds a game. “he’s very athletic. He’s a hard worker and we’re looking for great things from him. His brother Jackson holds the school record for dunks and Carson may surpass that this year.
He and his brother are also skilled baseball players. Jackson was recently drafted by and signed with the Cubs and Carson has committed to play baseball at Arkansas next year,” said Lewis. Another returner and a big body is Ashton Peters (5-11, Sr.) who in addition to his basketball skills scores well in the classroom where he is currently leading to be the class valedictorian next spring. “He is a smart player and one of the hardest workers you’ll ever see who’s willing to do all the little things and play whatever role is needed to be successful,” said Lewis. Outside those two, here is one junior, Raeshaun Perryman (6-1) and the rest of the load will fall on the shoulders of sophomores and freshmen for the Rangers. Sophomores that will be vying for a starting spot this year include Buck Triplett (5-10), Paul Johnson (5-10), Cason Perryman (6-2), and Mason Kemp (6-2). With a young team like this even the freshmen such as Kade Shook (6-1), Kayden Hartt (5-10), and D.J. Massey (6-1) will be in the running for quality playing time this year. Though they’re pretty young, don’t count on the Rangers to lose any ground this year.
