Abby Kate Qualls is a shining example of tenacity and fortitude in the busy hallways of Sallisaw High School. Abby Kate’s path on and off the basketball court and track is characterized by her steadfast dedication to excellence and her unwavering spirit.
Driven by an insatiable hunger for success, Abby Kate finds her motivation in the pursuit of personal growth and positive outcomes. “I am super competitive, so personal growth and positive outcomes in all my sports are what most motivate me,” she said. “I love to win.”
Guided by the profound influence of her parents, Abby Kate embodies the tenacity and grit instilled in her from a young age. “My dad, Bobby Qualls, has completely shaped the athlete I am today,” she acknowledged. “He always challenges me to get out of my comfort zone and overcome adversity. Most importantly, he is who I inherited my competitive spirit from!”
Reflecting on the educators who have left a mark on her life, Abby Kate singles out Ms. Whitney Sharp. “I have known her my entire life. Her and Mrs. Sarah Wilson were my main inspirations to pursue a career in becoming an English teacher.”
For Abby Kate, success in sports demands unwavering dedication and relentless effort. “Hours of dedication and hard work,” she said. “There is a drive within me that does not let me settle. I always want to be the best.”
Among the defining moments of her career, Abby Kate treasures competing at the state track meet. “I think the biggest highlight in my career was qualifying for the state track meet in all four of my events last year.”
In the hours of practice, Abby Kate finds a worthy adversary in her teammate, Kayli Macon. “She is such an outstanding athlete, and I know I’m leaving my team in good hands with her.”
As she looks toward the future, Abby Kate is committed to leaving a lasting legacy of leadership and excellence. “I want to always be an example for my younger teammates and the little eyes watching. I want to be known for always giving 110%, leading well, and making my teammates feel seen, known, and appreciated.”
