BROCK STREUN

SALLISAW HIGH SCHOOL

If the opening game of the 2023 football season against Stigler was any indication, this senior year for Sallisaw’s Brock Streun could be a doozie. Streun was called into action to quarterback in that Stigler game with Sallisaw trailing 27-6 early in the second half. He proceeded to rush for four touchdowns piling up 150 yards and passing for another 200 yards as he led Sallisaw all the back and into the lead. Unfortunately, Stigler scored late to win the game, but it was still a thrill for Streun.

“Our team came out with better energy than we’ve had for a while here in Sallisaw. We got off to a slow start but then really took off in the second half to overcome adversity which is something we’ve struggled with in the past,” said Streun who is also a talented baseball player pitching and playing third base.

The new Black Diamond coach this year is Brandon Tyler who has blazed a trail of success at coaching stops in Vian and Gore and he says Brock is one of the better athletes he’s ever coached.

“He’s a great leader as he showed in that Stigler game. He’s so athletic and does a great job for a big kid (6-1, 205) and runs well. He’s been a big boost for our offense,” said Tyler.

As a senior leader, Streun has a strong idea of how to do the job.

“Everyone’s going to have ups and downs like our kicker the other night who struggled early. But I went over and talked to him and pepped him up and he didn’t miss a kick the rest of the night. A good leader has to be able to do that and instruct the freshmen on their role in things, which is something we’ve been missing here. Coach Tyler has a lot to do with that. We were 0-10 last season, and he came in and said, ‘That’s not happening again’ and has brought a lot of positivity to the team. As for me, I always want to leave everything on the field for my team and show them I’m not going to give up on them.”

Brock’s true love is baseball and with several offers already in hand will be deciding where to play college ball in the coming months.
