Hadlee McFarland
Sallisaw High School
Sallisaw High School’s Hadlee McFarland first joined FFA while in the eighth grade thanks to a couple of family members who encouraged her to join.
“My mom and uncle had shown animals in school and had told me stories about their fun times, so I thought I’d try it out for myself,” said McFarland.
Today McFarland shows sheep and will soon start speeches this coming school year. McFarland wrestles for the varsity wrestling team and is taking Spanish this year. McFarland will be a sophomore when the school year starts, and she is looking forward to having a great year.
“What I enjoy most is that most everyone is kind and inviting into the FFA community no matter if you show or do speeches. My favorite memory would have to be when me and a friend went walking with our sheep and it had tripped her and took off,” said McFarland.
McFarland said wrestling season was hard, but worth it in the end. She said her teammates have become close friends.
“What I love most about my teammates is that if you need any help, they’ve got you and some become good friends.”
As for FFA, McFarland said anyone interested in what FFA has to offer should look into it and give it a try.
“Go in and try everything out even if you don’t find it interesting because you never know how much fun something is until you’ve tried it,” said McFarland.
