Spiro Bulldogs 2023 Girls Basketball Preview Presented by Wright’s Sunset Corner

GIRLS

Coach: Dennis Wright

22-23 Record: 11-14

The 2022 season was an adjustment year for the Bulldogs as new coach Dennis Wright installed his philosophies to the team. And now that the new is over, Wright feels good about the direction his team will be headed in 2023. “We only lost two players to graduation from last year’s team and return seven of our top nine. In addition, we’ll add three talented freshmen to the varsity this year. Our execution on both ends of the floor should be much better after a season and a full summer of playing for me.”

There will three seniors that return to the floor for the Bulldogs this season in guards Lindsey Wortham (5-3) who averaged six points a game last year and Kambrie Rogers (5-4) who also netted six points a game in 2022. The other senior will be forward Marrisa Ramsey (6-0). There are also a handful of juniors that Wright is expecting to be contributors led by Kaylee Marin (5-10) who averaged nearly seven points a game last season and 3.5 rebounds along with Akrissa Williams (5-7), Brooklyn Adams (5-6), and Chelsey Crutchfield (5-5). One of the keys for Spiro will be Brynleigh Graham (6-3, So.) who averaged nine points a game while bringing down 8.5 rebounds a game. “Brynleigh is a problem for opposing teams because of her size and length. As she matures and progresses, she will only continue to get better,” said Wright. In fact, the sophomore class may be the main driver for Spiro with six players figuring to vie for playing time. That group includes Kiana Craig (5-6), Aaliyah Harris (5-4), Katie Perdue (5-7), Laylah Steele (5-11), and Layla Tobler (5-7). The three talented freshmen that Wright mentioned are Rylee Darneal (5-6), Jaiklyn Rogers (5-7) and Kamdyn McClure (5-9). “We are still a very young team, mostly sophomore and freshman dominate so we still have a lot of growth potential. We expect to continue to improve throughout the season and be very competitive by playoff time,” said Wrig
