Spiro Bulldogs Football Preview 2023 Presented by Wright’s Sunset Corner

Coach: KYLE FOWLER

6-5

OFFENSE

As Spiro head coach Kyle Fowler begins his second season at the helm of the Bulldogs, there are reasons to be optimistic about the upcoming season. To begin with, his young team has had a chance to mature and get acquainted with Fowler’s way of doing business. And even as the team adjusted last year, they were still able to make it to the playoffs so with some key skill players back this year, the Bulldogs are hopeful of jumping further into the playoffs. Brycen Graham (6-5, 185, Jr.) will stand tall calling the count at quarterback again this year for Spiro in the one-back shotgun formation. That one back will be Kadon Craig (6-1, 215, Sr.) “Kadon is a three-year starter with good size and speed and has the opportunity to play at the next level. Besides being a great athlete, he shines in the classroom with a 3.9 GPA and will be a great leader for us on the field,” said Fowler. The receiving corps is well manned with the likes of Kane Hendricks (6-3, 175, Sr.) at wide receiver, Wyatt Carter (6-2, 225, Jr.) at tight end, and Hunter Sparks (5-9, 165, Sr.) at the H-back position. “I’m excited about the development of our young kids in the off-season,” said Fowler. “We’ll be short on depth, but they have a great work ethic and have really bought in to our system.”

DEFENSE

The heart of the Bulldog defense would seem to lie in the muscle upfront led by noseguard Tyson Covey (5-10, 220, Jr.). “Tyson started at nose guard as a sophomore and created chaos for our opponents. He has great strength and speed for his size and has a great upside,” said Fowler. Joining Covey in the defensive line will be Carter at defensive end and Justice Barnes (5-10, 230, Sr.) at a tackle spot in the 4-2-5 scheme. Craig and Sparks will be the stoppers at linebacker for the Bulldogs while Hendricks will patrol the secondary. Spiro returns eight starters on the defensive side and will hope to improve on the 19 points per game average that they surrendered last year. The Bulldogs will be tested early with four straight road games after their season opener at home with Panama.
