Spiro’s Bryson Spears Athlete Spotlight Presented by Wright’s Sunset Corner

Bryson Spears, a versatile athlete hailing from Spiro High School, boasts a sports journey that began in first grade, navigating the realms of football and later finding his true passion in basketball by the sixth grade. Coupled with his athletic pursuits, Bryson maintained stellar academic records, proving that his dedication transcends the court.

Recalling his basketball initiation, Bryson vividly recounts the intrigue of sixth-grade tryouts: “I figured I would give it a try to see what it was all about. I quickly developed a love for the game and knew I wanted to stick with it.”

When it comes to role models, Bryson draws inspiration from the remarkable journey of Austin Reaves, emphasizing, “Especially him coming up from a small town in Arkansas, to becoming a hidden gem for the Los Angeles Lakers.”

Managing the delicate balance between academics and sports requires discipline, and according to Bryson, “one thing that helps me balance academics and sports is to try to not procrastinate.”

A standout moment for Bryson was earning his starting spot on the team as a junior: “I had to overcome many adversities to earn it. I worked very hard to improve my game in every aspect, and it ended up paying off.”

Addressing the challenge of being an undersized guard, Bryson states, “I overcame this by learning to play with my size. One thing I have really had to work on and develop is my ability to handle the ball, especially under pressure.”

Being part of Spiro’s team taught Bryson the importance of collaboration, expressing that “it takes all five of us on the court working together to play efficiently.”

Lauding his coaches, Bryson affirms, “They have definitely played a part in developing me into the player I am today,” highlighting the impact of Coach Dustin Gist’s experience and Coach Brayden Cox’s detailed approach to player improvement.

Anticipating college, Bryson expresses his ambition to play collegiate basketball. Bryson Spears’ journey will continue this season, enriched by passion, resilience and an enduring love for the game.
