Jared Huff is a senior at Spiro High School and has played football, basketball and baseball for the Bulldogs all four years. This year he was also named an All Stater by the state Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

“It’s a great honor to be named an FCA All Stater, I think I’m the first athlete from Spiro to win this. I like making a difference in people’s lives and being a guide to others,” said Huff who has been a part of FCA since middle school and is also involved in FFA and the National Honor Society.

Huff says he owes so much of his walk with God to his father who led the way.

“I was saved at the age of eight at a judgement house and ever since I was different because I knew the Holy Spirit was in me. My dad was there for the experience and ever since that moment we have had a special bond. He helped lead me to Christ and every day he has encouraged me in my walk and helped me grow in the Lord. My dad has been a constant in my life no matter what’s happening and I’m just thankful to have him there.”

His faith has been tested during his high school years due to injury and the pandemic.

“Jared started for us the last couple of weeks of his freshman year,” said baseball coach D.J. Gist. “Covid wiped out his sophomore year and then he injured an ACL during basketball his junior year forcing him to again miss baseball. So this is the first year he has gotten to play for us fulltime.” 

Huff admits that during his rehab he struggled but found a friend he could lean on.

“I remember going to my youth pastor and telling him I didn’t think I could do the rehab, but he prayed with me and helped me work through the rehab and texted me everyday to see how I was doing.”

Gist is proud to have been a part of Jared’s life and is thankful for the example he has set for his team and his family.

“He’s the kind of kid you would like your own son to aspire to be like. I have a young son and he considers Jared to be the number one Bulldog. That example is not something you see all the time these days and me and my family appreciate that.”

Jared will continue his studies and play basketball next fall at Randall University in Moore and says he would like to be remembered at Spiro as the guy that put a smile on everybody’s face and someone that everyone liked.
