Hulbert’s Jonas Brewer
VYPE Top 100 selection Jonas Brewer is taking in everything he can in his final season on the gridiron at Hulbert High School.
“I’m just out there having a blast and building stronger connections with my teammates and having a good time during my last season,” the senior offensive and defensive lineman said.
The Riders were winless through the non-district portion of their schedule. Brewer wants to help them erase what was a 29-game losing streak, dating back to the 2020 season.
“As a team we’re giving it our all and trying to bring home a win whether that be an away or a home game,” Brewer said.
Brewer has been able to adapt on the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.
“I feel like I’ve improved the most on the line. A lot of the time I’m put in different positions within the line, on offense and defense so being able to adapt to different roles has been a huge improvement for me,” he said.
“I believe some of my strengths on the field would be to adapt to change. I’m often playing defense and offense so being able to keep up with the ball is a big part of it.”
His biggest improvement has come with his hand-eye coordination.
“It’s important in a game to focus on getting the ball from point A to point B and without hand-eye coordination you lack focus and your perception,” Brewer said.
Building bonds with teammates is something that Brewer feels is important.
“Playing the last football game of the season with a good friend of mine during his senior year is something that’s very memorable to me. On and off the field you build a lot of great friendships and it is always an emotional experience playing that last game with your senior friends, knowing they won’t be playing on the field with you next year,” he said.
Brewer, who is currently in the electrician apprenticeship program at ICTC and plans to become an electrician following graduation, says his biggest influences are his friends and family.
“My biggest influences are the friends and family members that show up for me at every game,” he said. “It’s always a good feeling knowing you have a big support system backing you up on and off the field.”
