KEYS COUGARS
Coach: ADAM HASS
0-10
OFFENSE
There’s no way to go but up for the Keys Cougars in 2023 but with 10 starters returning on offense, there’s good reason to feel a sense of optimism for the upcoming year. “We will be more experienced and have several returning starters coming back,” said third-year coach Adam Hass. “We look to rebound from the 2022 season and compete every week.” Leading the way for the Cougars will be two-way starter Austin Davis (5-11, 249, Sr.), a VYPE Top 100 nominee, who plays the H-back on offense. Joining Davis in the backfield will be running backs Tyson Robinson (5-9, 145, So.) and Jon Beckwith (6-0, 145, So.) Another sophomore, Treveon Guthrie (5-6, 130) will anchor the receiving squad for the Cougars after missing last year due to injury. Landing on a quarterback would appear to be the main focus of summer workouts for Keys.
DEFENSE
The guys on this side of the ball may need to do the heavy lifting early in the season until the offense finds its footing and they have the muscle and experience to do that with nine returning starters. Davis will be main man at the middle linebacker spot for Keys out of Hass’ 4-3 defense. “Austin has started every game for us since he was a freshman and has led the team in tackles the past two seasons (including 77 last year),” said Hass. Also at linebacker or defensive end will be Nathan Rogers (6-2, 175, Jr.) and Stanley Adamson (5-11, 175, Sr.). “Stanley is a hard worker who does everything he is asked to do for the team. He plays in the trenches and gets little notice from the masses for all he does for the Cougars,” said Hass. The muscle in the middle of that D-line will be provided by nose guard Levi Kellner (6-3, 315, Sr.) while Guthrie will be patrolling the secondary for the Cougars.
