“IN THE CIRCLE WITH MADISON INGRAM”
Hard work. It’s a big part of the DNA of Madison Ingram, a senior at Stilwell High School. “Madi has been a solid player all four years, someone who never complains about the hard work required to be a winner,” said head coach Kyle Decker. “By example, she has shown her teammates how to do things right.”
VYPE: At what age did you first begin playing softball?
Madison Ingram: I started playing when I was eight years old on a team called the Dirt Divas along with current teammates Kasia Thurber and Taya Ross.
VYPE: What position(s) do you play?
MI: Pitcher and outfield. My favorite position is pitcher because I like having more action and I like the challenge of it. If coach Decker lets me call the pitch, I’m throwing my change up because I’m confident of where I can place the pitch.
VYPE: What has softball taught you that you use in your daily life?
MI: Playing softball has taught me not to give up and to move onto the next. I’ve also learned the importance discipline and sacrifice.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
MI: My favorite part about being on a team is we get to work together. You’re not alone and you have people, like my best friend Taya Ross, that are always ready to pick you up when you’re down.
VYPE: Define yourself in three words. Which is most important & why?
MI: Hard-working, determined and dedicated. The most important one to me would be determination because it’s important to have that mindset in any sport as well as everyday life.
VYPE: Define Leadership and how you example this on and off the field?
MI: Leadership is doing things right and not slacking off; lifting up your teammates, being there for them everyday. For me, leadership is by example, I like to be kind to my teammates and never tear them down and work hard in the weight room.
VYPE: What do you want to be your legacy as a Stilwell Lady Indian?
MI: I want people to remember that I was always determined and dedicated to my team and my teammates, and that I never gave up and that I was always humble about the game.
